Our local guides will walk you through some of South Africa’s epic battle spots, including the real story behind the film ‘Zulu’, the towering Mountains of Drakensberg and Giant's Castle Game Reserve - offering mountain ranges that put Cape Town's Table Mountain to shame.

The Kwandwe Game Reserve is 22,000 hectares of understated wilderness with 5-star safari lodges nestled into the bush, offering exceptional safari experiences and wildlife holidays.

When To Go

Being such a big country, there is always somewhere in South Africa with sunshine. The seasons are opposite to Europe's, with our winter being their summer, and vice versa. Cape Town has warmer temperatures year round, with Atlantic winds making the vibrant city the perfect getaway anytime of the year.  Their dry winters are the perfect time for safaris’, as animals tend to congregate around watering holes and are easy to spot.

South African summer brings hotter temperatures, humidity and some impressive thunderstorms. The rains tend to last a few hours and are quite predictable so it's still a good time to travel. For a complete month by month guide see our ‘when to travel to South Africa’ article.

Where To Go

Start your holiday in South Africa in the cosmopolitan Cape Town or its more relaxed sister city, Durban; home to amazing surf. In Cape Town, take a day trip to the infamous Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years locked away. Next head to the District Six Museum, a memorial and educational museum about South Africa’s Apartheid era. No trip to Cape Town is complete without venturing up to Table Mountain. Take the cable car up the 1,086 metres or hike up one of the many beautiful routes to get to the top.

From Cape Town drive the Garden Route along the southern coastline: one of the worlds ‘great drives’  through ancient forests, past deep blue lagoons and along vast stretches of white sandy beaches. Fly north away from the coast and into the more sparse bush area. Visit the Greater Kruger Region and witness the successes of conservation efforts in the form of incredible amounts of wildlife.
